Editing services for your self-published novel
If you're a self-published writer, you need editing services before you put your work out in public.
Rule of thumb is: Writers can't edit their own work. It's not just you. It's all about the way the brain works. When you look back over what you've written, the "audio" in your brain overrides the "visual" that your eyes see, and you can completely miss seeing errors on the page. You'll want good reviews on Amazon or wherever you park your book for sale, and if you've missed a lot of mistakes, the reviewers will crucify you for that and skim over what might be a brilliant novel.
I've been a copy editor since 1994. It's how I make my living. I edit a wide range of material, but my favorite is fiction, which I don't get to do often enough.
I'm available for SOME self-pub fiction editing now.
However, I'm not your first stop in having your book edited. If you're still wondering about your characters or how the novel ends, I'm not the one you need. Ideally you've done your best job of editing. Also ideally you've sent it around to six best friends for early reader comments and they have pointed out all the errors, which you've corrected.
Once you think your work is the best it could possibly be, just before you hit the PUBLISH button to present your work to the world, THAT is when you send it to me. Whether it's a blessing or a curse I don't know, but I often (usually) pick up errors that multiple others (including other professional editors) have missed.
Contact me and tell me about your project. If I can take it on, I'll ask for an initial two chapters, the first and one from the middle, to take a quick look. Then, assuming we can come to an agreement, I'll have you send me the whole thing in a Word .doc file. What you'll get back is a document with errors highlighted in yellow and notes in red. My fees are reasonable.
